ABOUT

Mary McCloud is a singer/songwriter based in Los Angeles. Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, her music grew out of traditional country and now leans into the broader Americana sound shaped by folk, indie, and roots music.

Mary performed on the Los Angeles club circuit in the late 1990s and early 2000s, singing for the bands Scarecrow and The Bordersnakes, playing classic venues such as The Mint, The Troubadour, The Viper Room, The Roxy and Molly Malones. Her first solo album Wings of My Own was released in 2004.

2004 also brought the “release” of her first child, with a follow up “release” in 2007, after which Mary took a step back from music to focus on raising her family. She later returned to writing and recording, leading to the release All We Need in 2020. The album is a mix of original songs and covers developed with producer and co-writer Ched Tolliver.

Mary continues to perform live, recently appearing with the gypsy jazz group The Cat’s Meow in West Hollywood and has new material coming out in 2026. Her single “Sweet Escape” will appear in the feature film Spa Weekend, while “These Streets” is a love letter to the surprisingly diverse street she grew up on and a call to action against violence she sees today.

Be it interpreting someone else's song or writing her own, Mary is grateful for the connecting power of music. She draws inspiration from the people and experiences that shape her – from her roots as the granddaughter of a hillbilly preacher, to her life in the complex, sprawling world of Los Angeles, to granular details of domesticity. Her music seeks to capture those moments where the specific becomes the universal – offering a way to know each other a little better in this big ol’ world.
